Study Technology—Keeping the Flame of Learning Alive
Parents have all watched with wonder as their young children enthusiastically jumped
into learning new things and gaining new abilities, often faster than they could
keep track of. This is a natural state for children, and they generally enter school
in that state of mind.
The challenge for a school is to keep that fire alive, burning even brighter as
the years go by and the child evolves into a mature student. Too often, something
quite different happens and that fire dims, sometimes burning out altogether.
Many parents watch this happen with their children and wonder why. It is not a mystery.
If a school, a teacher, a parent, a child does not have the real know-how of how
a person learns for himself, for use in his life, all the many
little obstacles encountered in study along the years of schooling pile up into,
at the very least, a dimmed learning attitude but more often a major learning blockade.
With what is known today about learning and teaching, there is really no reason
for this know-how to be missing. Teachers can know it, parents can know it, and
students can learn it. This know-how is contained in Study Technology (Study Tech),
an educational philosophy and a practical approach to teaching and learning based
on research and developments by American writer and educator L. Ron Hubbard.
A Study Tech Environment
In a Study Tech environment, young students have a teacher knowledgeable about the
barriers to learning and how to overcome them; they have a teacher who helps them
know why they are studying something, and then helps them learn it for
themselves, all the while feeding their natural interest in learning—the
most valuable asset children have.
As a student advances up the school levels, this benefit gets an added element—the
student learns about Study Technology from his side of the learning equation.
He learns how to spot and get learning obstacles out of his way. He learns how he
can quickly get something he wants to know and be able to use it for himself.
Study Technology and the Student
As a student gains certainty in his use of Study Tech, he naturally takes more responsibility
for keeping his studies flying along. Add to that a teacher who is also trained
in the Study Technology helping him through the tough spots and supplying extra
challenge, and it becomes something remarkable—the real learning equation
becomes Student + Teacher + Study Tech= A Winning Educational Team.
Empowering students with an ability to study is an investment that pays off for
a lifetime.
